HAMMERHEAD SHARKS
Hammerhead Sharks swallow their food whole or bite it into relatively large chunks of the whole. They have special U-shaped stomachs that use strong acids and enzymes to dissolve most of what is eaten. Then the stomach produces an easily absorbed, soupy mush. Only the liquid mush enters the intestines because the pyloric valve is too small for anything else to fit through.
FUN FACT: On average more people in the United States are killed by honeybees than by sharks worldwide and sharks can tan!

RIVER OTTERS
The food travels down the esophagus from the mouth to eventually reach the stomach. There the strong stomach acid helps to break the food down. From the stomach when processed and broken down it travels through the small intestine where all the nutrients from the consumed food is absorbed. The food now moves on to the large intestine where excess water is absorbed. The food then reaches the rectum and anus where it leaves the otter's body.
MALLARD
Since the bill of the mallard doesn't allow for easy pecking, crushing/chewing, or tearing, they Mallard uses the help of its gizzard. The gizzard works in unison with the true stomach of the animal to digest and absorb nutrients. The gizzard performs the major breakdown of whatever food source is consumed. If the Mallard eats some corn, the gizzard will break it down, and its true stomach will further digest and absorb nutrients. Many birds utilize a gizzard in order to fully digest the food and maximize nutrient uptake.
